Avoimen lähdekoodin yhteisö “Sähköautot - Nyt!” muunsi Toyota Corollan polttomoottoriautosta sähköautoksi vuonna 2009. Miksi ihmeessä urakkaan ryhdyttiin? Sähköautoja näkee nykyään liikenteessä kaikkialla. Moni ei ehkä tule ajatelleeksi, että 2000-luvun alun Suomessa ne olivat tieteisfantasiaa. Yhteisö halusi näyttää autoteollisuudelle ja alkoi muuntamaan polttomoottoriautoja sähköisiksi sekä jakamaan muunnosten ohjeita vapaasti netissä. Tarkoituksena oli toimia kipinänä vallankumoukselle, jossa kaikki maailman autot voitaisiin muuntaa päästöttömiksi. Hanke sai mittavasti julkisuutta. Suomelle povattiin siivua sähköautoteollisuuden uranuurtajana. Mitä hankkessa tapahtui ja mihin kaikkeen se johti? Onko muunnossähköautojen aika vasta tulossa? Tämä on eCorollan ja Sähköautot - Nyt! -yhteisön tarina.

Finnish open source community "Electric cars - Now!" converted a Toyota Corolla from an internal combustion engine car to an electric car in 2009. Why? Electric cars can be seen in traffic everywhere these days. One might not think that in early 2000s Finland they were sheer science fiction. The community wanted to show the car industry: it started converting gasoline cars to electric and sharing the conversion instructions online for free. The purpose was to spark for a revolution in which all cars in the world could be converted to emission-free. The project received considerable publicity. Finland was seen as a pioneer in the electric car industry. What happened in the project? Where did it lead to? Is the time of conversion electric cars yet to come? This is the story of eCorolla and Electric cars - Now! -community.
